Usage and Billing

DataVerse PAYG billing system, designed to offer flexible and transparent pricing based on your actual usage. This guide provides a comprehensive explanation of our billing process, detailing how costs are calculated and what factors contribute to your monthly invoice.

Billing Units

Our platform's billing is based on the following units:

1. Data Storage

  • Charge: per 1000 item/month.

  • Description: We charge for the amount of data stored in a given month. Each image or point cloud data (PCD) is considered one data item.

  • Pro-Rata Basis: If data is stored for less than a month, charges are calculated on a pro-rata basis.

2. Annotation

  • Charge: per 1000 item/month

  • Description: When data is accompanied by annotations, whether they are ground truth or model-generated, it is counted as one annotation. There is an object limit - a maximum of 1000 objects per data item.

  • Pro-Rata Basis: Similar to data storage, if annotations are stored for less than a month, charges are proportionately calculated.

3. Training

  • Charge: Hourly rate.

  • Description: Users are charged based on the number of hours spent on training models. Before initiating training, we provide an estimate of the time and cost involved.

4. Prediction & Comparison

  • Charge: Hourly rate.

  • Description: For data inference tasks, charges are based on the hours consumed. An estimated duration and cost are provided before the task begins.

Tiered Pricing Structure

We are pleased to introduce our tiered pricing model, which provides volume discounts based on your monthly usage.

Monthly Usage Tiers

The tiered pricing is calculated on a graduated scale, where each tier has a specific unit price. Once the usage exceeds a tier's threshold, the next tier's discounted rate applies to that portion of the usage.

1. Data/Annotation Monthly Usage Tier:

  • 0 - 50k Item: Standard pricing applies.

  • 50k - 500k Item: Usage beyond 50k is billed at 90% of the standard unit price (10% discount).

  • 500k+ Item: Usage beyond 500k is billed at 80% of the standard unit price (20% discount).

2. Training/Inference Pricing Monthly Usage Tier:

  • 0 - 50 Hours: Standard pricing applies.

  • 50 - 500 Hours: Hours beyond 50 are billed at 90% of the standard hourly rate (10% discount).

  • 500+ Hours: Hours beyond 500 are billed at 80% of the standard hourly rate (20% discount).

The tiered pricing discounts are automatically applied to your monthly usage, ensuring you always receive the most cost-effective rate.

Viewing Your Usage and Costs

To view your usage data, simply follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings: Log in to your account and go to the 'Settings' section.

  2. Select Usage: Within Settings, you will find an option labeled 'Usage'. Click on this to access your usage details.

Understanding the Timing of Usage Data

  • Daily Calculation: We calculate the charges for each day based on the peak usage within that day (UTC time).

  • Reporting Delay: Due to the time needed to accurately calculate daily charges and potential time zone differences, there might be a delay in reporting. This means you may often see the data and associated costs from two days prior.

This comprehensive view of your usage not only helps you to understand how you are utilizing our platform but also enables you to manage your costs more effectively. By analyzing the historical data, you can identify trends and adjust your usage accordingly to optimize your expenditures.

Accepted Payment Methods

  • AWS Marketplace PAYG Subscription: Currently, we accept payments through PAYG subscriptions on AWS Marketplace. This method allows for seamless and secure transactions directly within the AWS ecosystem.

  • Linker: Contact sales for further support.

Billing Cycles

Our billing cycle is calculated on a monthly basis, with the time period delineated according to Universal Coordinated Time (UTC). This ensures a consistent and fair billing process for all users, regardless of their geographical location.

Billing Rounding Notice

Rounding Practices

As part of our commitment to transparency, we wish to inform our users of our billing practices related to the calculation of daily charges that are reported to AWS Marketplace.

Our billing process involves rounding up daily charges to the second decimal place before reporting to AWS. Additionally, AWS billing increments round up to the nearest $0.1. Given that rounding occurs daily, there is a potential for a minimal billing discrepancy that accumulates over the course of a month.

With each day's charges potentially rounding up once, and considering a maximum of 31 days per month, the cumulative rounding effect could lead to an additional monthly discrepancy of up to $0.1 * 31 = $3.1.

AWS Marketplace Billing Statement

Please note that the final charges on your AWS Marketplace billing statement will include these rounded amounts. While we strive to ensure accuracy within our billing process, we advise our customers to refer to their AWS Marketplace bill for the definitive amount charged for the use of our services.

We appreciate your understanding and are committed to providing the highest level of service. If you have any questions or require further clarification regarding your bill, please do not hesitate to contact our support team.

FAQs

In this section, we address some frequently asked questions regarding our billing methodology, specifically about pro-rata calculations for data/annotation and the minimum billing units for training, prediction, and comparison.

Q1: How is pro-rata billing calculated for data/annotation stored for less than a month?

  • Answer: Our system records the duration of data storage in the smallest unit, which is hours. For example, if 1000 items of data are stored for 15 days in a month with 31 days, the calculation would be as follows:

Q2: What is the minimum billing unit for training, comparison, and prediction?

  • Answer: For training, comparison, and prediction tasks, the minimum billing unit is in minutes. If the duration of these activities does not reach a full hour, billing will be calculated based on the actual minutes used.

Q3: How is the tiered pricing calculated if my monthly usage is within the second tier?

  • Answer: If your monthly usage falls within the second tier, the first tier's rate applies up to the threshold, and the second tier's discounted rate applies to the rest. Here's an example:

    • Example 1: Data / Annotation

      • Monthly Usage: 70k data items.

      • Total Monthly Bill: Total 50,000 (for the first 50k) X Monthly Price + 20,000 (for the last 20k) X Monthly Price X 0.9

    • Example 2: Training

      • Monthly Usage: 600 hours of training.

      • Total Monthly Bill: 50 (for the first 50 hrs) X Hourly Price + 450 (for the next 450 hrs) X Hourly Price X 0.9 + 100 (for the last 100 hrs) X Hourly Price X 0.8
